Large-scale relighting for offices and labs of Donaldson Europe
Donaldson manufactures filters for various applications and industries, ranging from the food industry to aviation. The European headquarters of this global player is located in Leuven. They recently entrusted Multiline with the task of renovating all the lighting in their offices. With a focus on energy savings and preserving the existing ceilings, we started looking for a suitable lighting solution.

Earned back in less than 6 years
For a renovation project, we always start by mapping out the existing situation and current energy consumption. After the usual lighting study, we can compare the current situation with an optimized simulation. This allowed Donaldson to calculate that the investment in relighting would already earn itself back in less than 6 years. Not only the financial aspect, but also the reduction of CO2 emissions was a key motivator for Donaldson to invest in new lighting. This aligns with their global sustainability report and their ambitions to reduce emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to fiscal year 2021.

Nearly 500 custom-made luminaires
Together with the installer, we went on site to explore potential solutions tailored to the existing recessed openings and lighting characteristics. To ensure our designs would fit perfectly, we first made a sample luminaire. After several tests, the final model was approved for production, and we developed nearly 500 custom-made luminaires in total. All were coated in a specific RAL color that closely matches the existing ceilings.
Additional options for safety and convenience
Each room has different lighting requirements. Special attention was, for example, given to the laboratories. Here, we considered the appropriate degree of protection, such as in the so-called “liquid labs,” where the lighting may come into contact with liquids.
Thanks to our thorough preparation and ability to provide customization on a large scale, Donaldson was able to define their preferences for each space. Our solution included dimmable luminaires, integrated emergency lighting, Bluetooth modules in meeting rooms, and DALI systems with light sensors at designated locations. After installation, we conducted light measurements to verify whether the practical results match with our theoretical lighting calculations.

More and more companies are opting for relighting
The importance of energy efficiency in buildings continues to grow. As a result, office buildings of this scale are increasingly focusing on relighting. In fact, installing suspended ceilings as an alternative has a whole different price tag.
