From bespoke interiors to architectural lighting

Lieze’s professional journey did not begin in the project sector. For many years, she worked in kitchen design and bespoke interiors at a family-owned company. When the company closed its doors four years ago, she began looking for a similar working environment: a business with its own workshop or production facility, and above all, a product she could genuinely stand behind.

“Lighting had always interested me, especially because of my background in interiors,” Lieze explains. “I still had a lot to learn about the sector, but I immediately felt that Multiline delivers high-quality products and that colleagues genuinely support one another.”

What does a lighting architect do at Multiline?

Lieze summarises her role as a lighting architect in a few words: “Developing a lighting proposal that works for everyone around the table—not only for the client, but also for the architect, engineering consultancy, installer and contractor.”

“We typically begin with a lighting calculation, which we then translate into a lighting plan. I prepare a quotation to accompany it and send both, together with the technical data sheets, to the client. Drafting specification texts is also part of the role, ensuring that our products are clearly and correctly specified.”

“Finally, project follow-up is an important part of the job as well. Our projects often span several years and phases. It takes time, but that is also what gives me a sense of fulfilment,” says Lieze.

Teamwork as the foundation

One aspect Lieze particularly values is the close collaboration within Multiline. “The atmosphere here is a constant: an open office, colleagues who are happy to explain things, and a team that steps in when things get busy. I try to avoid mistakes as much as possible, but I also feel that it is okay to learn. No one here shifts responsibility onto someone else. That creates a sense of calm.”

Projects that stay with you

Lieze finds particular satisfaction in smaller projects, where the connection between all parties is especially strong. “Recently, the cooperation between the client, interior architect and installer was becoming difficult. During a site meeting, I took on the role of a connecting figure: listening, identifying nuances and looking for a lighting solution that worked for everyone involved. In the end, we found a suitable solution and received very positive feedback on our lighting.”

“My first large project at Multiline was SEW Eurodrive near Leuven. It was exciting, but I received so much support. The project offered an ideal environment in which to grow. The architect understood how we work, the engineering consultancy was open to advice, and we had the opportunity to apply our Rekta 30 family consistently throughout the project.”
